| No, I don't think it happens. I would instantly call that lust. You can't see someone and call it love. | |

| How can you say you love a person if you don't know them...I really don't think it works that way. You can enjoy a way a person looks but that doesn't add up to love... | |

| For someone like a writer, which is typically an artistic type of person, you really don't think things like that can happen? I believe it does. I think you can see a person and instantly know something about them. Like an almost spiritual kind of thing. | |

| I absolutely agree with Gloom. You can't truly love someone until you know them, because if it were otherwise, you wouldn't know what you were loving. Unless, of course, all you're loving is a face; a form. And that, we call lust. | |

| I know the difference between love and lust. Teele of all people I expected to vote against this one...bah. Disappointing. Its like what you said though. You don't know what you are loving, only that you do love something about them. Something beyond the physical. Actual, true love. | |

| Art is something that is born in the soul. Sure it can be learned, but you have to have a talent for it. | |

| I understand what you mean, Dark, and I've often written about such things in stories, and in the games. Still, as a practical matter, even if I were to see someone and experience something similar to what you describe, I would still need to get to know the person before I was willing to pledge myself to them wholly. | |

| I believe in attraction at first sight...even strong attraction, sure. Sometimes someone just hits every single one of your buttons from seeing them to speaking to them for the first time.
But Love? That's a tall order. Attraction only gets you to the point where you begin to get to know someone. After you get to know what they're like and what they're all about...THEN I think you might fall in love with them.
And loving someone for a lifetime is pretty much an exercise in Re-falling-in-love because you have decided that is what you will do. It's worth it...it's not automatic every day, though.

| Objection! Art. ART. ART! Art my dear is nothing you can compare to a job, a hobby. On the contrary, art is VERY much like love at first site. When I begin a painting or drawing I don't think "This is going to be a lot of hard work. Oh and i shouldn't forget that I cant anticipate it becoming a great piece in less I put hard work into it.". OH no. What I think is precisely this. "What a grand plain of potential. What a magnificent white scape that I, me, can ravage or meander or skip or play in. This in all essence is beauty. The beautiful potential that lies before me is so abound that I cannot describe it. I must start because this is a fleeting moment. I cannot waste any more time."'. True love is not the instant thought of all the work that goes into a relationship. I believe that love at first sight can only be explained as a wonderful feeling of potential joy. When the girl or man of your dreams walks into the room i doubt that your first thought would be " Hard work Ahoy!" No, I'm certain that the first thoughts are more along the lines of this. "Look at the way they walk. What a wonderful smile. I wish they were mine. I wish they wanted me. Oh what a joy it would be to be with that person."
It isn't unknown that true love or love at first sight may be a foreign concept to those who have not yet experienced it . For those of you who don't believe remember this.
Don't say that I didn't tell you so.

| Lust, attraction, but not deep, soul binding love. I mean, I gave up hope of ever finding someone that loves me for me. A man walked into my work once and I had a sudden thought that said, Im gona marry that guy some day. I squashed the thoguht like a bug and put it to me being insane, lonely and sad. But Im getting married to him next year. Go figure! But I didn't fall in love with him right away. I certainly felt a pull and the cliche of chemistry etc but not love. not right away. | |

| I beg to differ with you all! I do believe in love at first sight, because I believe love comes in so many different layers and forms. It doesn't have to be lust immidiatly when you find somebody attractive at first sight; it can be the way somebody looks out of his/her eyes, holds his/her head up high, showing that they can be a solid person. The way somebody dresses can say a lot (now don't go calling me superficial! I'm the last person to judge solely on outfits!) about how this person takes care of one's self. That isn't lust, I think. | |

| Well, yes. There's just some times when you meet someone and something clicks. It's not lust, because the attraction isn't just physical and it's the kind that makes you want to give, not take. But just calling it "attraction" doesn't do justice to how strong and complete it is.
It is quite a bit different than the deep committed love that comes through living with and knowing someone for years on end. One is the kind that gets you started on the journey even though it could be dangerous, and the other is the kind that keeps you going now that things actually are dangerous.

| I agree, well-put CD. I kinda tried to avoid using the word 'infatuation' but I think it fits a love-at-first-sight scenario. | |

| ^ What they said! I dont believe in the true soul shattering love to end all love is an instant thing. It could take a week or a month or even a year or so before you know that you love this person. Sometimes your relationship is tested and that could pretty much be the point when you look at this person and go holy crap. I LOVE this guy and would do anything for him/her.
But then again.... it takes a cute smile, eyes that drown you and im pretty much butter! lmao.

I beg to differ with everyone on the matter that soul shatter, world breaking love cannot be had on a first glance based on a matter of personal experience. So there.
